In general, merchandising is the methods of coordination, functions and practices that used to promote and sustain definite categories of commercial activity which support to sales the products. Widely, merchandising is any practice which contributes to the sale of products to a retail consumer. In other words, merchandising refers to the variety of products availability that are ready for sale and the display of those products in such a way that it stimulates interest and entices customers to make a purchase.
In garment industry, the terms of merchandising is the link between the management of garment industry (called exporter) and the buyer. In this sector, a merchandiser who creates a good relationship in between exporter & buyer, have to look after every steps like buying the raw material (trims, fabric etc), making the garment, finishing the garment, documentation for whole procedure (purchasing raw materials, development technique, production planning) and finally ship it out to desired destination. Besides this, a merchandiser’s need to promote comprehensive sales activity as well as market research, development of new products, coordination of manufacture (garment) and marketing, and effective advertising for selling of products.
